KFF Journalists Address Measles, Vaccines, Food Recalls and Health Policy
KFF Health News journalists appeared on national and local programs to discuss public-health deaths, vaccination, Medicaid technology, the Affordable Care Act and election policy.
KFF Health News editor-at-large for public health Céline Gounder discussed fatal measles cases on CBS News 24/7’s Mornings on Aug. 26. Two days earlier, she appeared on the network’s The Daily Report to fact-check statements by Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Administrator Mehmet Oz about vaccines and drug prices.
Gounder also joined CBS News 24/7’s The Takeout With Major Garrett on Aug. 24 for a discussion of food recalls during the summer. The three appearances addressed separate public-health and consumer-safety issues receiving national attention.
Chief Washington correspondent Julie Rovner discussed kindergarten vaccination rates on WNYC’s The Brian Lehrer Show on Aug. 25. Falling or uneven vaccination coverage has become a central issue as health officials respond to measles outbreaks.
Contributor Mark Kreidler appeared on KVPR’s Central Valley Daily on Aug. 24 to discuss the use of artificial intelligence in Medicaid reenrollment. His related reporting examined efforts to use AI to increase enrollment while also documenting concerns surrounding the technology.
Senior correspondent Julie Appleby joined Vox’s Today, Explained podcast on Aug. 24 to assess the condition of the Affordable Care Act. Georgia correspondent Briah Lumpkins appeared on WUGA’s The Georgia Health Report on Aug. 21 to discuss the importance of healthcare policy in upcoming elections. KFF Health News provided links to the broadcasts and to Kreidler’s related article.
