Portugal Colonial - Goggia claims first super-G title after victory in Kvitfjell

Goggia, who already has four downhill crystal globes under her belt, was eighth out of the start hut and careened down the mountain to claim her 10th super-G victory and her 29th in total.

She finished 0.32sec ahead of Swiss racer Corinne Suter with the German Kira Weidle-Winkelmann completing the podium.

New Zealander Alice Robinson, who had an outside chance of overhauling Goggia, could only finish 16th, out of the points, but still finished second in the super-G standings, 163 points behind the Italian.

It made for an impressive weekend for the Italian women after Laura Pirovano claimed the women's downhill World Cup title on Saturday.

In the overall standings, Aicher, who finished fourth, moved to within 45 points of Shiffrin in the overall standings after the American failed to chalk up any points as she finished 22nd.

The 22-year-old German might have closed the gap even further but missed out on a podium finish and another 10pts as she came in 0.001sec behind compatriot Weidle-Winkelmann.

The race for the overall title will go down to the final showdowns in Tuesday’s giant slalom and Wednesday’s slalom.

Further back, Ilka Stuhec, wearing bib three, ended her run in a champagne shower to mark her 252nd and final World Cup start.

The 35-year-old Slovenian made her World Cup debut in 2007 and went on to claim 11 victories and two crystal globes, taking the downhill and combined title in 2017.

The same year she also won downhill gold at the world championships, repeating that success in 2019.
