Doncic cleared to face Pistons after foul rescinded: NBA
Luka Doncic has been cleared to play in the Los Angeles Lakers' crunch clash with the Detroit Pistons on Monday after a foul which triggered an automatic suspension was rescinded, the NBA said in a statement.
Doncic was hit with his 16th technical foul of the season during the Lakers' victory over the Orlando Magic in Florida on Saturday, which extended their winning streak to nine games.
The Slovenian superstar was sanctioned after a verbal altercation with Orlando's Goga Bitadze following a free-throw attempt.
Under NBA rules, a player who accumulates 16 technical fouls during a season automatically receives a one-match suspension.
However, the NBA said in a brief statement on X on Sunday that technical fouls against Doncic and Bitadze had been rescinded "upon league office review."
The decision means Doncic will now be ready to line up against Eastern Conference leaders Detroit on Monday as the Lakers attempt to bag their 10th consecutive victory.
Doncic has been in sensational form during the Lakers' recent winning streak, averaging 40 points a game during their nine-game unbeaten run, including a dazzling 60-point display against Miami last Thursday.
