The 24-year-old American, who signed a five-year deal in August with AFC Bournemouth of the English Premier League, is expected to be out until at least mid-February following a second hamstring surgery, according to the report.

Adams had the original operation after an injury in March while playing for Leeds United, forcing a six-month layoff. He made an appearance for Bournemouth last month but did not play again before having the second surgery two weeks ago.

As a result, Adams will miss the Americans' November home and away quarter-final series against Trinidad and Tobago in the CONCACAF Nations League.

The winner of that series will qualify for next year's Copa America, which will be hosted by the United States and feature six North American sides and 10 South American squads.

Adams was captain of the US squad at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the youngest US captain since 1950, and was named the 2022 US Soccer Male Player of the Year after sparking a US run to the last 16 before a loss to the Netherlands.
