Bayern to host Stuttgart in Bundesliga season opener

German champions Bayern Munich will host Stuttgart when the 2026-27 season kicks-off on August 28, the Bundesliga announced Wednesday.

The Friday evening match to start a campaign traditionally features the defending Bundesliga champions away from home.

The two powerhouses of the German game, Bayern and Stuttgart, played four times last season, including in the German Cup final, won 3-0 by the Bavarians thanks to a Harry Kane hat-trick.

The full set of fixtures will be announced on Thursday, but the Bundesliga already have also confirmed the dates of the 'Revierderby' between Borussia Dortmund and Schalke.

Dortmund will head to Schalke in early December, before hosting their local rivals in April.

Considered the biggest derby in German football, Dortmund have not faced Schalke since 2023, with the latter returning to the top flight after three seasons in the second division.
