Ogura to miss Aragon MotoGP after hand surgery
Japanese rider Ai Ogura, who is third in the MotoGP world championship standings, has undergone successful surgery on a hand injury, his team Aprilia-Trackhouse said Thursday.
The 25-year-old, racing in just his second MotoGP season, suffered the injury while motocross riding in Japan.
"Ai's left thumb fracture has been plated and an assessment on his condition will be made over the coming weekend before a rehabilitation plan is established," the team said in a statement.
"While we hope that Ai will be fit to attend the San Marino Grand Prix, starting in 15 days, at this stage it is too early to confirm. Wishing him a speedy recovery."
Ogura is only 37 points behind championship leader Jorge Martin with 10 races of the season remaining.
But he will miss out on valuable points this weekend at the Aragon Grand Prix in Alcaniz, after crashing out at Silverstone last time out.
Ogura claimed his maiden top-class win at the Dutch MotoGP in June and has posted three other podium finishes this year.
Marco Bezzecchi is second in the standings, six points ahead of Ogura, with Marc Marquez three points behind the Trackhouse man in fourth.
