ChatGPT interactive interface feature tested across six custom tools
A new ChatGPT feature called Intelligent UI can generate interactive tools with controls, charts and graphics directly inside a conversation.
The feature was tested with six prompts ranging from practical utilities to experimental designs. One request asked for a living-room planner with a floor plan, adjustable furniture dimensions, alternative layouts, colour schemes and calculations of remaining floor space.
Other tests examined whether the system could select an appropriate interface when the user supplied less detailed instructions. The results showed that generated tools can be useful for quick exploration, although their quality depends on prompt clarity and the complexity of the task.
Unlike a conventional downloaded application, each interface is assembled in the chat and can be revised through further instructions. Generated results still require checking, particularly where calculations, personal data or decisions with real-world consequences are involved.
